Message from League President, Christine M. Poist
I received a call from Cynthia Coogle, who manages Sonny McCoy Indigeneous Park. She wanted me to be aware of some recent issues. I have dissected them as follows:
(1) Keys: Only league officers and night captains should have keys. The keys open the gate, open the bathrooms, open the league box, and turn on the lights. Approximately a week ago, between opening and closing, the lock for the front gate went missing. In the future, when opening, attach the lock and its accompanying chain back onto the gate so it doesn't go astray.
(2) Balls: League balls are only to be used on league nights. If you want to come out and practice, you must use your own balls.
(3) Bathrooms: The bathrooms are available for our use on league nights.
If someone is using the pavilion, this precludes our use of the restrooms. Also, for our male members, please do not go to the bathroom behind the trailer. Often times, there are employees working late inside who don't need to witness it. Use the bathrooms...that's why they are provided.
(4) Lights: The lights should only be turned on for league nights and scheduled make-up games, NOT practice. There have been complaints of the lights being left on.
(5) Behavior: According to Ms. Coogle, there has been several occasions where bocce players have been rude to those who are paying for use of the
pavilion. This includes trying to access the box in the middle of a party, demanding access to the restrooms, and overall behaving badly. As a result of these things, the City has had to refund several renters' monies. We cannot afford to pay the City back for all these instances. Also, please behave kindly to your fellow league members.
If things do not change, several things MAY happen including the following:
(a) No access to bathrooms - a port-a-let (or whatever you want to call it) would be set up for our use
(b) No access to the pavilion - again no bathrooms; also, the league would have to remove our box and find another location for it
(c) No league...PERIOD
The City has done us a great service in allowing us to use the bocce courts free of
charge. Don't let the behavior of a few select people ruin it for all of us. Please spread the word.
Thank you.
